In the photograph series called Sete Cidades (2017), I traveled to the Azores Islands, a chain of nine islands of volcanic origin that in Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1869) were imagined as reminiscences of a lost continent and were part of Nautilus’s route. Walking through the lush landscapes and along the top of calderas and craters, where legends say that cities of lost civilisations once existed, I transmit the mystical atmosphere described by Plato, who talked of the mythical Atlanteans, before they disappeared from the face of the Earth.
